Seawater Intake Systems & Sea Outfalls

Elmosa
Canada

Seawater intake & Sea Outfall systems (CWIS) to supply clean water to electric power plants, desalination plants, seawater reverse osmosis plants, petroleum refineries, pulp & paper  mills, fish farms, aquaculture,  municipal water plants, and to discharge RO brine, cooling water, and wastewater.

Our Systems are designed for:
- Proaction rather than reaction
- Preservation rather than eradication of marine life,
- Prevention rather than curing

Seawater Intake & outfall System - the philosophy behind the design

The Elmosa offshore seawater intake systems - the InvisiHead Technology

The InvisiHead is selected by the US Environmental Protection Agency consultants as the best technology available (BTA). It is in full compliance with the requirements of Section 316(b) of the USEPA Clean Water Act.

Flow velocities into the InvisiHead intake head and out of the InvisiHead outfall:

  • 0.0027 m/s max. (0.009 fps) <5 meters (15 ft) away from entrance, approaching or exit leaving,
  • 0.03 m/s max. (0.1 fps) 1.0 meter (3 ft) away from entrance,  approaching or exit leaving,
  • 0.09 m/s max. (0.3 fps) at entrance, entering or releasing.
Head loss at the InvisiHead approaches zero. It is engineered to control and drastically reduce the inflow of debris, the ingress of fish, and the impingement of mussels and other marine life and entrained air.
